Swine Flu and Ways to Prevent It

Swine flu (swine influenza) is a highly contagious disease caused by a flu virus. It is a respiratory illness normally found in pigs but has somehow mutated and is now capable of infecting humans.

The indications of swine flu are very similar to regular flu, including body aches, chills, cough, diarrhea, headache, sore throat, fever, fatigue and vomiting.

Getting infected with swine flu can be prevented by observing proper hygienic practices such as washing hands properly as well as avoiding touching surfaces that may have the virus, staying away from infected people and avoiding crowds if there is a swine flu outbreak in your area. In addition, a person can prevent being infected by staying healthy, getting proper rest and exercise and eating a well-balanced diet.

An infected person can prevent transmitting the virus to others by limiting contact with other people, staying at home, covering the mouth with tissue when sneezing or coughing, washing hands and face regularly and, most importantly, by following the doctor’s instructions.

"I so appreciate Dr Lisa. She is hands down the most thorough doctor I have encountered yet- anytime I have any real concerns regarding my health, I make the extra effort to see Dr Lisa, even though I now live an hour away. I really appreciate that Dr Lisa listens to her patients' concerns, and covers all bases in addressing them, on all level."
